Which should you choose?
A bench if you have a wall run of 20 inches (51 cm) or more — it gives you a seat plus shoe storage underneath. An ottoman if the seat matters and the wall does not, since it can sit anywhere. A stool only if the space is genuinely too small for either, because it stores nothing.
The bench is usually right
It uses the wall, which in a small entry is the cheapest space you have. It puts the seat at the standard height. And it gives you tiered storage underneath in the same footprint — which is the part an ottoman cannot match, because an ottoman's storage is one box and a bench's is two or three open tiers you can see into.

When the ottoman is the better answer
Two cases. First, when you have no usable wall — an entry that is all doors, or a landing where the only free space is in the middle of the floor. An ottoman is the only one of the three that works away from a wall.
Second, when everything must be hidden. A storage ottoman is a closed box, and a closed box is genuinely tidier than open tiers. The cost is ventilation: shoes stored wet in a sealed box stay wet, and that is what produces the smell. If it is bags, hats and gloves rather than footwear, the objection disappears.

The stool is a last resort
