Ranked roundup
Entryway storage benches under $100
A hundred dollars buys more entryway bench than most people expect — including the highest published load rating on this site. Five that clear the line, ranked on depth, capacity and what the maker puts in writing.
#ad — We earn a commission from qualifying purchases made through the Amazon links on this page, at no extra cost to you. It does not change what we recommend or the order we rank it in. Full disclosure.

What does $100 actually buy in an entryway bench?
More than the category implies. Under a hundred dollars you can have a published load rating of 440 lb, fifteen adjustable compartments, and a carcass under a foot deep — the same bench that tops our unfiltered roundup. What you give up above this line is material, not capability: solid wood rather than board.
This is worth stating plainly because the assumption runs the other way. Entryway benches are sold across a range from roughly twenty-five dollars to several hundred, and the intuition is that the useful ones start somewhere in the middle. They do not. Of the eight benches in our main roundup, the one that ranks first on the published rubric sits comfortably under a hundred dollars, and so do the three behind it.
What a bigger budget genuinely buys is a different material class — solid rubberwood, seagrass, birch — and the look that comes with it. That is a real thing to want. It is not the same as a better bench for putting boots on, and on a site that ranks by published figures rather than by finish, it does not score higher.
A note on the number in the title: every bench below was under a hundred dollars when this page was compiled, and the button on each one carries the live price at the moment you are reading it. Prices in this category move week to week. If one has drifted over the line since, the button will tell you and this sentence will not — which is why we do not print prices in the prose anywhere on this site.
What got on this page
- Under $100 on Amazon at the time of compiling, checked against the live price layer rather than a remembered figure.
- Storage built into the bench. A bare seat at this price is easy to find and is a different product; every pick here stores shoes underneath.
- Published outside dimensions and a published static load. No published figures means no pick, on this page as on every page of this site.
- Currently purchasable, verified through the price pipeline — anything without a live offer is excluded rather than listed and hoped for.
The ranking is the site's standard five-metric rubric with no discount for being cheap. That matters: a page that re-scores products because they are inexpensive is a page that flatters its picks. These five are ranked exactly as they are on the unfiltered roundup, and three benches that cost less than some of them finish below them.
The five, on the figures that decide it
Read the depth column first, because depth is what a bench takes out of your hallway permanently. Four of these five are between 11.2 and 11.8 inches, which leaves 24 inches or more of walking room in a corridor at the 36-inch residential code minimum — the point at which two people can still pass. The fifth is 14 inches and leaves 22, which is tight enough to notice every day.
Then read the load column against the width. The 41.3-inch bench publishes 440 lb, which is the highest figure of any bench we rank at any price. The 28.7-inch bench publishes 198 lb. Both are perfectly adequate for sitting on; the gap tells you about the amount of material in the carcass, and it is the clearest thing on this page that price does not track quality in a straight line — the 440 lb bench is not the most expensive one here.
The bamboo bench is the outlier worth understanding. It is the cheapest bench on this page and the only one whose carcass is not a board product. Bamboo handles the humidity of an entryway better than particleboard does, and it is the pick we would make for a coastal or damp entry regardless of budget. That it also happens to be the cheapest is a coincidence of this category, not a rule.
Where the money actually goes below $100
Three places, in the order they matter.
Width. This is the single biggest driver at this end of the market. Going from a 19.7-inch bench to a 41.3-inch bench roughly doubles the price and slightly more than doubles the storage, which is a fair exchange. If you have the wall, the wider bench is nearly always the better value per inch.
Closure. Open tiers are the cheapest shape to build and the most useful for wet shoes, because nothing traps moisture against a sole. Doors and lids cost more and are worth paying for only if the entry is visible from a room you sit in. On a strict budget, open tiers are not the compromise — they are the correct answer that also happens to be cheaper.
Documentation. This one is invisible on a listing page and it separates these five more than anything else. One publishes a top load, a per-shelf load and a product weight. Another publishes a single number. The difference costs nothing to produce and tells you a great deal about how confident the maker is, which is why documentation carries a fifth of the rubric.

Source: Published dimensions and 440 lb load rating, VASAGLE ULHS15WT / ULHS15BR listing.
What the specs support
- 440 lb rating is the highest of any bench here, and it is published rather than implied
- 11.8 in (30 cm) deep, so it clears a 36 in hallway with the door swing intact
- Adjustable shelves mean boots and sneakers can share the same carcass
- The cushion cover unzips, which matters on the one surface in the house that meets wet shoes
Limitations
- 41.3 in (105 cm) is a lot of wall for a small entry
- Compartment internal depth is not published, so tall boots are a gamble
- 12 mm particleboard is the category norm, not an upgrade
Skip this if
You have less than 44 in (112 cm) of clear wall. At 41.3 in wide this bench needs the whole run, and there is a narrower option below that gives up only a few pairs.
Who it is forA family entry with a full wall to give it, where the bench has to take an adult sitting down to pull boots off every day.
Pick 2

Bamboo rather than laminated board, 286 lb rated, and the only bench here offered in three widths so you can match the wall you actually have.

Source: Published widths (50 / 70 / 90 cm), 11.3 in depth, 17.8 in height and 286 lb load, SONGMICS ULBS04H listing.
What the specs support
- Bamboo handles entryway humidity better than a particleboard carcass
- 11.3 in (29 cm) is the shallowest bench in this roundup
- Three published widths — 19.7, 27.6 and 35.4 in — so you can size to the wall
- Open tiers, so nothing traps moisture against a wet sole
Limitations
- 286 lb sits between the two steel-framed benches here
- No back or arms, so it is a perch rather than a place to sit and wait
- Bamboo marks if road salt is left on it over a winter
Skip this if
Your entry takes serious winter boots. At 11.3 in (29 cm) deep the tiers hold shoes, not knee-high boots stood upright.
Who it is forA humid or coastal entry, or anyone who wants the shallowest possible bench that is still a bench.
Pick 3
Under 20 inches of wallHOOBRO Small 3-Tier Shoe Bench (BG50HX01)
Nineteen and a half inches wide with a 300 lb top — the answer when the only free wall is the strip beside the door.
Key dimensions
- Width
- 19.7 in (50 cm)
- Depth
- 11.2 in (28 cm)
- Height
- 19 in (48 cm)

Full specification
Source: Published 19.7 x 11.2 x 19 in, 300 lb top / 22 lb per mesh shelf, 10.3 lb item weight, HOOBRO BG50HX01 listing.
What the specs support
- 19.7 in (50 cm) wide fits between a door casing and a radiator
- 300 lb top load despite the size — it is a seat, not a shelf pretending
- 22 lb per mesh shelf is double the fabric-shelf version
- Mesh shelves let wet soles drip and dry
Limitations
- Two or three pairs per shelf is the honest capacity at this width
- 10.3 lb means it slides if you push off it standing up
- 19 in seat height is tall for a bench this narrow, so it reads perch-like
Skip this if
More than two people use this entry daily. At 19.7 in wide it is a one-person landing spot and it will overflow.
Who it is forAn apartment entry, a landing, or the awkward wall segment where nothing 30 inches wide will go.
Pick 4
Shoe count per dollarVASAGLE 3-Tier Shoe Rack Bench (ULBS73X)
Three open tiers across 28.7 in with a 198 lb top — the cheapest shape that still takes an adult sitting down.
Key dimensions
- Width
- 28.7 in (73 cm)
- Depth
- 11.8 in (30 cm)
- Height
- 17.7 in (45 cm)
- Seat height
- 17.7 in (45 cm)

Full specification
Source: Published 28.7 x 11.8 x 17.7 in and 198 lb (90 kg) static load, VASAGLE ULBS73X listing.
What the specs support
- 17.7 in (45 cm) seat height is effectively the ergonomic standard
- Three full-width tiers is the most open storage per inch here
- Steel frame with a wood-look top, so nothing swells if it gets wet
- 28.7 in (73 cm) is the sweet spot for a standard 36 in hall
Limitations
- 198 lb static rating is the lowest of the seated benches here
- Nothing is hidden — this is a rack you can sit on
- No published tier clearance, so tall boots are untested by the maker

The entry is visible from the living room. Three tiers of open shoes is a lot of visual noise from a sofa.
Who it is forA back door, a mudroom, or a household that would rather see the shoes than hunt for them.
Pick 5
Doors, not shelvesVASAGLE Shoe Storage Bench with Cushion, 3-Tier with Doors (ULSB044)
Three tiers behind closed doors, a removable cushion on top, and both of its load figures published — a top rating and a per-shelf rating.
Key dimensions
- Width
- 39.8 in (101 cm)
- Depth
- 14 in (36 cm)
- Height
- 20.7 in (53 cm)
- Seat height
- 20.7 in (53 cm)
- Depth band
- Standard
Footprint 39.8 x 14 x 20.7 in (101 x 36 x 53 cm). Adult shoes flat, heel to toe.
Full specification
Source: Published 14 x 39.8 x 20.7 in, 300 lb top load, 11 lb per shelf and particleboard/MDF construction, VASAGLE ULSB044W01 / ULSB044B01 listing.
What the specs support
- Doors hide everything, which is the point of buying this shape rather than an open rack
- Publishes the per-shelf load as well as the seat load — two figures where most makers give one
- Adjustable shelves, so one tier can be given over to boots
- The cushion comes off for cleaning rather than being upholstered onto the lid
Limitations
- 20.7 in (53 cm) to the top of the cushion is a perch, not a seat — two inches above the residential standard
- 14 in (36 cm) deep leaves 22 in of walkway in a 36 in hall, which is under the passing threshold
- Closed doors with no published ventilation is the wrong home for wet shoes
- 11 lb per shelf is a modest published figure for a shelf you will load with boots
Skip this if
This is where wet boots land. A closed cabinet with no stated ventilation traps the damp against the shoe, and the smell that follows is not the cabinet's fault but it is the cabinet's problem.
Who it is forAn entry you can see from a living room, where the shoes are dry, the look matters and 14 inches of depth is available.
What you are giving up against a bigger budget
Honestly: material and appearance, and not much else that we can measure. The benches we rank above this price bracket are solid rubberwood with a seagrass seat, or solid birch. They look better in a hallway you can see from the living room, and they will still look like furniture in ten years in a way that a laminated board carcass may not.
What they do not do is publish better figures. The most expensive bench we rank publishes no weight capacity at all. The second most expensive publishes none either. On a site whose whole position is that the published number is the thing you can check, spending more frequently buys you less information rather than more — and that is a genuinely strange feature of this category that is worth knowing before you assume the expensive one is safer.
Frequently asked
Questions people actually ask
What is the best entryway bench under $100?
The VASAGLE 15-compartment bench, which also tops our unfiltered roundup: 11.8 inches deep, an 18.9-inch seat and a published 440 lb static load, the highest figure of any bench we rank at any price.
Are cheap entryway benches any good?
At this price the figures are competitive with anything above it. What a larger budget buys is a different material class — solid wood rather than laminated board — and the appearance that comes with it, not a stronger or deeper bench.
What is the cheapest bench here that is still worth buying?
The bamboo 3-tier. It is the least expensive pick on this page and the only one whose carcass is not a board product, which makes it the one we would choose for a damp or coastal entry regardless of budget.
Do budget entryway benches hold an adult?
Every bench here publishes a static load between 198 lb and 440 lb, so yes. Treat those as indicators of how much material is in the carcass; no maker in this category publishes a dynamic figure for dropping onto the seat.
Will the price still be under $100 when I click?
The button carries the live price at the moment you read it, refreshed daily. Prices in this category move week to week, which is why no number is printed in the text of this page.
Is it worth paying more for a solid wood entryway bench?
Only for how it looks and how it ages. The two most expensive benches we rank publish no weight capacity at all, so spending more in this category often buys less published information rather than more.
