Single-model review
HOOBRO BF071 hall tree bench with coat rack
The widest low-profile seat we rank, at a depth a narrow corridor can still take. The dimensions are published precisely. Almost nothing else is.

The verdict
A long wall on a small budget. The bench is 39.4 inches wide at 11.8 inches deep, the widest low-profile seat we rank and still shallow enough for a narrow corridor. What you give up is documentation: HOOBRO publishes no seat load, no hook rating and no pair count for this model.
This is a two-part product — a bench, and a separate hook panel that mounts above it — rather than a single tower. That architecture has a real advantage: the panel goes where you put it, so hook height is yours to choose rather than the frame's to dictate. On a category whose standard complaint is a fixed hook height, that matters.
It also means the two halves have to be measured separately, which is the part people get wrong. The bench footprint and the panel footprint are published; the assembled height is not.
Does it fit your hallway?
At 11.8 inches (30 cm) deep the bench leaves 24.2 inches of walkway in a hallway at the 36-inch code minimum, which clears the 24-inch threshold where two people can pass each other. Among hall trees that is unusual — the tower-style units we rank run 12.3 to 13.8 inches, and the two inches between them decide whether a corridor works.
Width is the ask. The bench is 39.4 inches and HOOBRO publishes the coat rack panel at the same 39.4 inches long by 3.1 inches wide, so you need roughly 41 inches of clear run at seat height and the same 39.4 inches clear at hook height. That second check is the one people forget: a light switch, a picture rail or a door architrave at hook height will stop the panel going where the bench goes.
The seat sits at 18.1 inches (46 cm), which is inside the 18 to 19 inch residential standard rather than below it. That is a slightly higher perch than the bench this model replaces, and for most adults it is the more comfortable end.
What HOOBRO does not publish for this one
On the superseded BF171 in this slot, HOOBRO published a per-hook rating of 11 lb and two separate bench figures. For the BF071 it publishes neither — no hook rating, no seat load, no stated shoe capacity, and no material for the carcass or the frame. The listing gives dimensions, the hook count, the color and the product weight, and stops.
That is a real gap rather than a pedantic one. A hall tree is a seat, and a seat with no published load is a seat you are guessing about. We do not estimate one here, and we have not carried the old model's figures across — different model, different published specification, and a number that is true of one is not evidence about the other.
The panel height is missing too, as it was before. That is the figure that decides whether the piece clears a dado rail or fits under a stair soffit. You can plan to the published guidance — hooks 24 to 30 inches above a bench seat, adult hooks 60 to 65 inches from the floor — because you choose the mounting height yourself, but you cannot confirm the panel fits the space above the bench until it arrives.
All of that is why this scores where it does on documentation: it is the lowest score we have given a hall tree.
Nine hooks across thirty-nine inches
Nine hooks in two rows is the one capacity figure HOOBRO does state. Spread across 39.4 inches that is roughly 4.4 inches of spacing, which means coats overlap in practice — hook counts in this category always overstate what you can actually reach.
Two rows helps rather than doubling anything. The back row takes what lives there permanently and the front row takes today's coat, so read nine hooks as about five coats you can get at without moving another one.
Under the seat there is an open shelf rather than tiers or cubbies, and HOOBRO states no pair count for it. One row of shoes along a long run is what the shape allows. Treat this as a coat-first piece with somewhere to put today's shoes — at 11.8 inches deep it leaves enough corridor that a slim cabinet elsewhere in the entry is still viable, which is the better answer if pair count is the actual problem.
What we did not do
We have not assembled this, sat on it, or mounted the panel. Everything above is compiled from HOOBRO's published specification for the BF071MT01G1 on the retail listing, plus published guidance on hook heights and hallway widths. Where HOOBRO publishes no figure we have said so rather than borrowing one from the model this replaced. Availability was verified against the live Amazon catalog on 10 October 2026.

What the specs support
- 39.4 in of bench is the widest seat in this roundup
- 11.8 in (30 cm) deep, shallower than every tower-style hall tree we rank
- 18.1 in seat height sits inside the 18 to 19 in residential standard
- The hook panel mounts separately, so hook height is yours to choose rather than the frame's
Limitations
- Publishes no hook rating, no seat load and no pair count — HOOBRO states the dimensions and little else
- The panel height is not published either, so the finished height cannot be checked before it arrives
- No material is named anywhere on the listing, for the carcass or the frame
- At 19.8 lb it is the lightest hall-tree assembly we rank, with nothing published about what it holds

Frequently asked
Questions people actually ask
How deep is the HOOBRO BF071 hall tree bench?
11.8 inches (30 cm), which leaves 24.2 inches of walkway in a hallway at the 36-inch code minimum. That is shallower than every tower-style hall tree we rank.
What weight does the bench hold?
HOOBRO does not publish a seat load for this model, and we will not estimate one. If a published seat rating is what you are choosing on, the steel-framed hall trees we rank state 300 lb.
How tall is it once assembled?
Not published. The bench is 18.1 inches high and the coat rack panel is 39.4 by 3.1 inches, but HOOBRO states neither the panel's height nor an installed overall height.
How many coats do nine hooks actually hold?
About five you can get at. Nine hooks across 39.4 inches is roughly 4.4 inches of spacing, so coats overlap; the two-row arrangement separates everyday coats from stored ones.
What happened to the BF171 version?
It is discontinued — Amazon lists it as currently unavailable. Our review of it stays up for reference, and the BF071 reviewed here is the model HOOBRO still sells in the same shape and width.
