Head to head

HOOBRO vs VASAGLE

Between them these two brands supply most of the entryway storage sold online under a hundred dollars, and they are not interchangeable. Here is what twenty-five of their products, scored the same way, actually show.

A narrow corridor with wooden wall panelling and built-in cabinets

Which should you choose?

HOOBRO if the space is tight or the budget is: across our registry it scores 8.50 on fit against VASAGLE's 7.47, and averages $67.99 against $74.93. VASAGLE if you want the piece to feel solid and hold more: it leads on build, 7.59 to 6.50, and on capacity, 7.41 to 6.63.

This is not a comparison we went looking for. It fell out of the registry: of the 50 products we have measured, 25 are from these two makers — exactly half. If you shop for entryway storage online under about a hundred dollars, you are mostly choosing between them whether you notice the brand or not.

Both are budget engineered-wood-and-steel brands with overlapping catalogs, similar assembly, and similar finish options. The differences below are real but they are differences of emphasis, not of class. Neither is a premium brand and neither pretends to be.

What the numbers show

Every product on this site is scored on the same five-metric rubric — fit, capacity, documentation, build and value — from the maker's own published specification. Averaging those scores by brand is not something we set out to do, but with 17 VASAGLE products and 8 HOOBRO products measured identically, the averages mean something.

The two scores worth reading together are fit and capacity, because they are the trade. HOOBRO's catalog skews to the narrow and the short — a 19.7-inch bench, a 9.4-inch-deep cabinet, hall trees that are 17.5 inches tall at the bench. That is what a high fit score measures and it is why HOOBRO wins the tightest hallways.

VASAGLE goes wider and taller and holds more, which is what its capacity lead measures. Its registry entries run to a 41.5-inch four-door cabinet and a 41.3-inch fifteen-compartment bench. Neither of those fits a narrow hall, and both hold roughly twice what HOOBRO's equivalents do.

Documentation: a tie, and an odd one

On our documentation score the two brands are level — 6.88 against 6.82, which is noise. But they get there differently, and the difference matters if you are planning a hallway on paper.

HOOBRO publishes more lines of specification per product: 6.6 spec rows against VASAGLE's 5.3. Its best-documented cabinet is one of only two products on this entire site to score 9 for documentation, publishing external dimensions, pair capacity, a top load, a per-shelf load, the shelf adjustment positions, the product weight, the materials and the foot type.

VASAGLE's ceiling is just as high — its best hall tree also scores 9 — but its floor is lower and more erratic. Several VASAGLE cabinets in our registry publish four spec rows and nothing about load at all.

The genuinely odd finding is that neither brand has a consistent spec sheet. Across 17 products VASAGLE uses fifteen different label names for what is essentially the same figure — "Max static load", "Load capacity", "Weight capacity, bench", "Max load, bench" and so on. HOOBRO manages thirteen different names across just 8 products. You cannot line two of their listings up and compare load without first working out whether the two numbers describe the same thing, and often they do not.

That is the single most useful thing to know about shopping either brand, and it is why this site rewrites every figure into one vocabulary before ranking anything.

What the specs support

  • Publishes both a seat rating and a per-hook rating, which most makers do not
  • 11.8 in (30 cm) deep is shallow for a piece with a usable seat
  • Ten hooks is enough for a family of four in winter
  • Fabric drawers come out to be emptied and shaken

Limitations

  • 11 lb per hook means a soaked winter coat is close to the limit
  • 71.5 in (182 cm) tall — it must be fixed to the wall
  • Fabric drawers hold hats and gloves, not muddy boots

Skip this if

You hang heavy wet outerwear. At 11 lb a hook, a waxed jacket carrying rain is at the published limit.

Who it is forA standard entryway that needs coats, shoes and a seat from one 32 in run of wall.

Pick 2

Halls under 40 inches

HOOBRO Narrow Shoe Cabinet with 2 Flip Drawers (WT21SC01)

Nine and a half inches deep with two flip drawers and shelves that move to three heights — the cabinet for a hall that cannot spare a foot.

What the specs support

  • 9.4 in (24 cm) deep leaves 26 in of walking room in a code-minimum 36 in hall
  • Three shelf heights is the most adjustment of any cabinet here
  • 44 lb top rating means it can hold keys, post and a lamp, not just look flat
  • Open bottom shelf for the pair you are actually wearing today

Limitations

  • At 9.4 in deep shoes sit tilted, so a men's 12 is at the edge of what fits
  • 42.8 lb is heavy for a wall-adjacent cabinet you may want to move
  • Flip drawers hold shoes on edge, which crushes soft uppers over time

Skip this if

The household wears size 12 or larger. At this depth large shoes sit at a steep angle and the drawer front fouls.

Who it is forA genuinely narrow hall, corridor or apartment entry where a 12 in cabinet would make the walkway unusable.

Pick 3

VASAGLE Shoe Bench with Cushion, 15 Compartments (ULHS15)

Product weight43 lb (20 kg)
CushionRemovable, hook-and-loop, zippered linen-look cover

Source: Published dimensions and 440 lb load rating, VASAGLE ULHS15WT / ULHS15BR listing.

What the specs support

  • 440 lb rating is the highest of any bench here, and it is published rather than implied
  • 11.8 in (30 cm) deep, so it clears a 36 in hallway with the door swing intact
  • Adjustable shelves mean boots and sneakers can share the same carcass
  • The cushion cover unzips, which matters on the one surface in the house that meets wet shoes

Limitations

  • 41.3 in (105 cm) is a lot of wall for a small entry
  • Compartment internal depth is not published, so tall boots are a gamble
  • 12 mm particleboard is the category norm, not an upgrade

Skip this if

You have less than 44 in (112 cm) of clear wall. At 41.3 in wide this bench needs the whole run, and there is a narrower option below that gives up only a few pairs.

Who it is forA family entry with a full wall to give it, where the bench has to take an adult sitting down to pull boots off every day.

Pick 4

Under 20 inches of wall

HOOBRO Small 3-Tier Shoe Bench (BG50HX01)

Nineteen and a half inches wide with a 300 lb top — the answer when the only free wall is the strip beside the door.

Source: Published 19.7 x 11.2 x 19 in, 300 lb top / 22 lb per mesh shelf, 10.3 lb item weight, HOOBRO BG50HX01 listing.

What the specs support

  • 19.7 in (50 cm) wide fits between a door casing and a radiator
  • 300 lb top load despite the size — it is a seat, not a shelf pretending
  • 22 lb per mesh shelf is double the fabric-shelf version
  • Mesh shelves let wet soles drip and dry

Limitations

  • Two or three pairs per shelf is the honest capacity at this width
  • 10.3 lb means it slides if you push off it standing up
  • 19 in seat height is tall for a bench this narrow, so it reads perch-like

Skip this if

More than two people use this entry daily. At 19.7 in wide it is a one-person landing spot and it will overflow.

Who it is forAn apartment entry, a landing, or the awkward wall segment where nothing 30 inches wide will go.

Pick 5

A low console under a mirror

VASAGLE Shoe Cabinet with 4 Flip Doors (ULBC035)

Low, wide and 9.4 in deep with a 121 lb top — the only slim cabinet here strong enough to be furniture as well as storage.

Key dimensions

Source: Published 9.4 D x 41.5 W x 32.6 H in, 16-28 pairs, 121 lb top / 13 lb per flip drawer, VASAGLE ULBC035B01 listing.

What the specs support

  • 121 lb top rating is five times the slim cabinet — a genuine console surface
  • 32.6 in (83 cm) high leaves wall clear for a mirror or hooks above
  • 9.4 in (24 cm) deep despite 28 pairs of stated capacity
  • Low and wide is far more stable than tall and narrow

Limitations

  • 41.5 in (105 cm) needs a long wall
  • Shoes sit on edge at this depth, which is hard on soft leather
  • 13 lb per flip door

Skip this if

Wall length is your constraint rather than depth. There are 23 in wide cabinets here that hold nearly as many pairs.

Who it is forA hallway with a long uninterrupted wall, where the cabinet doubles as the console table under the mirror.

Where each one actually wins

Buy HOOBRO for

  • A hallway under about 40 inches of clear wall. HOOBRO's catalog is built around narrow, and its fit score is a full point clear.
  • The lowest price that still comes with a published specification. Its cheapest registry entry is a $35.98 bench that still publishes a top load, a per-shelf load, its weight and its materials.
  • A cabinet you want to plan around precisely. Its narrow flip-drawer cabinet is the most completely documented slim cabinet we rank.
  • Bench-height hall trees. Two of its hall trees sit 17.5 inches tall at the bench, which is inside the residential seat norm and unusual in the category.

Buy VASAGLE for

  • Pair count. Its wide four-door cabinet and fifteen-compartment bench hold more than anything HOOBRO makes in our registry.
  • A piece that feels substantial. VASAGLE leads build by more than a point, and its heavier panels and steel frames are the reason.
  • Choice. Seventeen products against eight means VASAGLE usually has something at the size you need, including formats HOOBRO does not make at all.
  • A hall tree with a genuinely strong published seat. Its best-documented hall tree is the one we rank first overall.

What neither brand is for: solid wood, a twenty-year piece, or anything you would describe as furniture rather than storage. Both are engineered board with steel or iron framing, and our materials guide sets out what that means over time.

The honest caveat about these averages

Seventeen products against eight is not a balanced sample, and a brand average is not a product review. VASAGLE's mean is dragged down by a few thinly-specified cabinets that HOOBRO has no equivalent of; HOOBRO's smaller catalog means one strong product moves its average more.

So treat the table as a description of the two catalogs as we have measured them, not as a law about the brands. The individual product pages are where the actual buying decision is, and on any given size the better-documented product wins regardless of the badge on it.

One last thing that applies to both: neither brand publishes internal compartment dimensions with any consistency, which is the figure that decides whether your largest shoe fits. That is a category-wide failure rather than a brand one, and our shoe cabinet depth page is the workaround.

Frequently asked

Questions people actually ask

Is HOOBRO or VASAGLE better?

Neither, across the board. HOOBRO leads on fit (8.50 to 7.47) and value (8.25 to 7.59); VASAGLE leads on build (7.59 to 6.50) and capacity (7.41 to 6.63). Choose on which of those your entry needs.

Which is cheaper, HOOBRO or VASAGLE?

HOOBRO, by about 9% on average across our registry — a mean of $67.99 against $74.93 at the time of writing. VASAGLE's range reaches higher, to $119.99 against HOOBRO's $99.99.

Are HOOBRO and VASAGLE the same company?

They are separate brands. We compare them because between them they account for half the products in our registry, not because of any corporate relationship.

Which brand publishes better specifications?

It is a tie on our documentation score, but HOOBRO publishes more spec rows per product (6.6 against 5.3). Both use wildly inconsistent label names for load figures, which is the real problem with either.

Which brand is better for a narrow hallway?

HOOBRO. Its catalog skews narrow and short — a 19.7-inch bench, 9.4-inch-deep cabinets — and that is exactly what its one-point fit lead is measuring.

Which brand holds more shoes?

VASAGLE, on capacity score 7.41 to 6.63. Its wide four-door cabinet and fifteen-compartment bench are the highest-capacity pieces either brand has in our registry.

Where these figures came from

  • International Residential Code minimum hallway width — 36 in minimum for a residential hallway; 36 to 42 in typical, 42 to 48 in comfortable.
  • Standard bench seat height — 18 to 19 in from floor to seat top is the residential standard; 18 in (46 cm) for an entryway bench specifically.
  • Manufacturer published specifications — Every figure behind the brand averages on this page is the manufacturer's own published specification for a product in our registry, scored on the site's five-metric rubric. The averages are arithmetic on those scores across 8 HOOBRO and 17 VASAGLE products.
  • Live price layer — Mean and range prices are taken from the Amazon catalog at build time across the products of each brand that currently resolve to a live price — 7 of 8 HOOBRO and 14 of 17 VASAGLE. Prices move; the scores do not.
